Dakota Angler & Outfitter, Inc. is Rapid City and South Dakota's only full service fly fishing shop. We specialize in fly fishing equipment and fly tying materials. We offer 1/2 and full day guided fly fishing trips in the Black Hills of South Dakota, where on a crowded day you might share a river with 2-3 other anglers. Trout are plentiful in our remote corner of the fishing world, as are deer, antelope, turkey, pheasant, elk, duck and goose. Cast and blast is the name of the game in South Dakota.

Staff Profile
Dick Leir: A master level social worker in private practice who enjoys the fly fishing way of life. Dick recognizes people's need for excellent service, good information and quality equipment, and gave birth to the idea of Dakota Angler & Outfitter. Dick recognizes that modern day life is simply too stressful, that too much work and too little time equal BURNOUT. He believes that time spent on the stream is the best therapy for everyone.

Hans Stephenson: Hans is our assistant manager. He's a college student who lives to fly fish and will never allow school or work to diminish his avid desire to fish.

Caleb Herbst: Caleb is another college student and local computer whiz. He and Hans stack up against anyone for knowledge, ability and interest in fly fishing.

Garrett Clapp: Garrett is our head guide and a fellow therapist. His ability on the stream as a guide and teacher is second to none. Need some life coaching? Garrett is the one to book for a double in the tranquil beauty of the Black Hills.

Thad Fitch: Thad is a deputy U.S. Marshall in real life and Mr. Enthusiasm on the stream.

Jeff Cosier: An english teacher by profession and terrific guide by passion.

Jim Lafriennerie: Jim is a retired USAF Command Sgt. who knows there is no better life than being on the stream in pursuit of big fish.

Clint Meyer: Clint primarily guides in the northern hills and believes that selling insurance is a good way to insure the opportunity to fish and find all sorts of new waters with surprising results for his clients.

Ray Glover: A technology teacher by trade, Ray believes the technology of fly fishing has improved his clients' catchable rates immensely.

Dave Chapman: Dave is another college student who got his feet and appetite wet guiding down in Colorado. He came here for the school and loves the noted lack of crowds on the water.

Comments From Scott
We're proud to have such a dedicated dealer serving anglers in this little known sportsman's paradise. The fishing and hunting opportunities near Rapid City are endless, highlighted by the fantastic small streams of the Black Hills. Dakota Angler and Outfitter is an oasis in a state with few fly shops but plenty of local anglers who know how to keep a secret. Service comes first at Dakota Angler, and these guys really know how to take care of their customers.
Rod Recommendations
The G 802/3 and G 803/3 are our favorite rods for small stream fishing in the Black Hills. Trout can run from 8" to 20" in the same pool. We need rods that can cast accurately at short distances, but have plenty of butt section to land big fish. We fish lots of dry flies, and you just can't beat the G-Series for delicate presentation.
