Sumner "Stowey" Stowe: The resident shop sage. Stowey has fly fished all over New England, as well as the rest of the country, for the last 40 years. He has caught every manner of fish from the salt to freshwater and is an ardent conservationist. Jan Axtell: An avid fly angler, Jan has fly fished all over the United States, in fresh and salt water for the last 15 years. He brings a great deal of knowledge of fly fishing, fly tying, and aquatic biology to the store. Tara Mirakian: Tara is the store's resident angler artist. She has been enamored with trout since she was knee high to a grasshopper. Her enthusiasm for fly fishing is apparent in her outstanding pen and ink drawings that adorn the store walls. Lawton Weber: Lawton is the store's fly fishing addict. His enthusiasm is second to none. Lawton is one of the store's top guides and

| Comments From Scott The Fly Rod Shop is a special fly shop for several reasons. Stowe, VT is one of the prettiest places in the Northeast, and happens to be surrounded by a splendid variety of seldom-fished trout streams. The shop itself is right out of a Thomas McGuane story. You step from the porch into a meandering room with wood floors and old-world cabinets. There's a whole realm for fly rods, with virtually every modern maker's rods displayed spaciously. If you sniff around, you'll probably uncover all kinds of old time equipment and paraphanalia, from cane rods to leather fly wallets, antique reels and shotguns. Stowey and Pat are dyed-in-the-wool local anglers. Advice is free, and they'll always take time to talk fishing or step out to the pond for a little casting. By the way, the pond with a casting platform is just 40 feet from the porch. |

Rod Recommendations SES 855/3: Our favorite general purpose trout rod. This is one of Scott's best casting rods and is equally capable with dry flies, nymphs and streamers. |
