Captain Mark Chesser specializes in fly fishing the backcountry of the lower Florida Keys. He makes his home in Marathon, and works the flats from Key Largo to Key West as well as the waters of Everglades National Park. Contributing to his angling skill is his degree in Fish & Wildlife from the University of Maryland. Mark fishes for all of the game species in the world's richest saltwater fishery, but he specializes in snook, redfish, bonefish, permit and tarpon.

Chesser recommends Scott's Heliply series for bonefish and giant tarpon, but prefers the fast action Tactical Series for permit fishing. The HP887/3 is his favorite rod for bones, as the sensitive tip provides for accurate presentations. He recommends the SES 9010/3 as an all around big game rod, because the rod combines powerful casting qualities with excellent lifting ability. Mark's favorite rod for giant tarpon is also a Heliply series fly rod: the HP 8812/3. He chooses this rod because most 12-weights are too stiff for comfortable casting, but all HPs load evenly and smoothly with both floating and sinking lines. The HP 8812/3 has the greatest lifting power of any Scott rod, and Mark's clients make use of this quality on a daily basis.
