When Scott Fly Rods moved from Berkeley to Telluride in 1993, we invested in a host of local talent. Frank Smethurst was the top fly fishing guide in Telluride for over 10 years, and is now one of our most knowledgeable and instructors. Frank has become a tremendous resource for Scott as a manufacturer, and for fly fishers who visit southwestern Colorado.

Frank's fishing career began 20 years ago in Atlanta when he filled the family swimming pool with freshwater and stocked it with bass from a local pond. Just one bass, actually, which became highly selective over a period of months and helped the young Smethurst hone his casting and fly tying skills.

As an angler and guide, Frank has ten years experience on the Dolores, Gunnison, and San Miguel River, and has spent all of his free time in the last five years fishing the Florida Keys. Frank has also guided in Alaska, and has caught five species of salmon and steelhead on the fly.
