HP 887/3

This light line saltwater rod has become a calm weather favorite from the coast of Maine to Key West. All Heliply Series rods are 8' 8", four inches shorter than the STS or SES saltwater rods. As a result, they balance lighter in the hand and are less tiring to fish. The shorter length also makes these rods more efficient levers, so they cast into the wind very well and fight fish efficiently despite not being quite as stiff as the STS Series. The HP 887/3 is a terrific red fish and sea trout rod, and is perfect for a calm day on the bonefish flats. This rod has also become popular among serious bass anglers, and is even used for streamer fishing on Western rivers where saltwater size flies are thrown for trout.

HP 887/3 & HP 888/3: When it comes to sight casting to bonefish, redfish, snook, etc., or fishing a mangrove shoreline, these two HPs are my favorite because of the great accuracy that the shorter blank and Heliply action produces. Also, the same fat butt section that produces such stable loop control is later a great asset when fighting a big fish. I simply don't go to the flats or into the mangrove world without one or both of these.
