8' 8" 3-piece models are among our best rods, and this is our favorite 5-weight. The combination of casting accuracy, balance and subtle power afforded by this unique 3-piece rod makes the G 885/3 well suited for all trout fishing. As a member of the G-Series, this rod is forgiving enough to fish small dry flies over spooky fish, but because it's a little shorter than other 5-weights, the G 885/3 loads and unloads more quickly. The result is a forgiving fly rod that generates high line speed and casts with pinpoint accuracy. We unconditionally recommend this fly rod to all trout anglers.

| G 883/3, G 884/3, G 885/3: The G 883/3, G 884/3 and G 885/3 go everywhere with me. These mid-length rods respond magnificently to roll casting, which I personally do quite a bit. The 8' 8" length offers good accuracy like shorter rods and is also more than adequate for longer-than-you-should casts. I find these rods to have a surprising amount of horsepower when needed. I've landed some incredible fish on all of these rods and would recommend that everyone try them at some point. | ![]() |
