STS 905/4

If you travel or backpack often, choose this four-piece model over the STS 905. Fast action 5-weights are popular rods, but this particular rod has some advantages over the others. Most importantly, the internal ferrules keep this rod smooth and light despite its fast action character, which helps with roll casting and line mending. This is a fantastic long casting 5-weight, and is just as popular for lake fishing as it is on big rivers. STS 905/4 is a great all-around fly rod for aggressive techniques: casting stoneflies and grasshoppers, streamers, and nymphing with a strike indicator.

STS 905/4: I use this rod for my daily sandbass fishing and there is no telling how many fish in the 1 to 3 lbs. size class this single rod has successfully landed. I know the actual numbers are in the thousands. I also use this rod for Lake Fork surface feeding largemouth bass. These fish usually range in size from 2 to 5 lbs., but occasionally one of our 7 or 8 lb. bass comes up. I like to use this lighter tackle when fishing in open water, because the STS 905/4 is so easy to cast and has plenty of power as long as you're not pulling the bass out of heavy structure.
